Matterhorn Ski Bar History
In the summer of 1988, while skiing the glaciers at the base of the Matterhorn Roger stumbled across the NORTH WALL BAR in the village of Zermatt Switzerland. Here, cool people from around the world were drinking big steins of brew, eating pizza and watching Warren Miller ski films on the big screen.
“That’s what people want he thought! When you’re at a Ski Resort, you want to feel the vibe of the mountain and live the lifestyle. He vowed to return to Zermatt to summit the formidable Matterhorn. Who knew that he would someday find his own version of the North Wall Bar at Sunday River.
In 1996 along with his business partner Patrice, they traveled to Naples, Italy to find the world’s oldest pizzeria where pizza was actually invented. There, pizza making is a time-honored tradition. Patrice and Roger were invited back to the brick oven to learn the secrets of real Italian pizza. These secrets are used today here at the Matterhorn to create our now famous Artisan Wood-Fired Pizza.
In 1998, Roger returned to Switzerland for an amazing ascent of the Matterhorn and repeated this victory again in 2011, fulfilling a 10 ten year dream. If you visit the North Wall Bar in Zermatt today, you’ll see our own Matterhorn menu hanging on the wall.
Today at the Matterhorn SKI BAR, Pizza, Beer & Ski Movies has evolved into a rocking apres ski scene with live music and New England’s hottest rock bands. In addition to pizza & beer our menu now includes, steaks, pasta, artisan salads & seafood.
We’ve come a long way baby! I hope you enjoy the Matterhorn Ski Bar as much as we have enjoyed bringing it to life for you!
