OUR BRICK OVEN & PIZZA BOXES are EARTH FRIENDLY BECAUSE:
IT all started with our Brick Oven in 1995. Not only does it bake a better pizza, but the fire is all-natural...not gas or electric. We burn hardwoods which are a sustainable resource and help keep the Maine forest industry strong.
The 6000 plus pizza boxes we use for takeout are also made from recycled materials. On each and every box, we encourage the end user to once again Re-cycle it.
RECYCLING:
THE Matterhorn is a major recycler...instead of throwing away thousands of pounds of cans, bottles and plastics each year to landfills which blight the land and never go away, we choose to recycle.
LED LIGHTING:
Fluorescent and incandescent lights found in most restaurants are plain and simple energy inefficient and they need regular replacement. The Matterhorn has replaced all lighting with low-energy long lasting L.E.D. lights.
INSULATION:
Most heat is lost through our roof...the more heat we lose, the more propane we need to burn to keep up. This season, the Matterhon invested in dense pack Blown Cellulose with an R-Value of 50 in all attic spaces.
SOLAR PANELS:
Our crowning achievement. Our grid-tied photovoltaic system situated on our solar south facing roof generates ____KW hours of electricity each year which we sell back to the grid...we use less power and others benefit from it too.
